The Canada Recovery Benefit provides $1000 every two weeks for up to 26 weeks (13 periods) for individuals ineligible for EI (including self-employed individuals).
Eligibility
Canadian residents
at least 15 years of age
has a Social Insurance Number (SIN)
has stopped working due to COVID-19 and are available and looking for work, or are working and have had a reduction in their employment/self-employment income for reasons related to COVID-19
not eligible for Employment Insurance (EI)
had employment and/or self-employment income of at least $5000 in 2019 or in 2020; and
has not quit your job voluntarily
Individuals must reapply after every two-week period for which they are seeking income support and attest that they continue to meet the requirements.
Benefit period: 26 weeks (September 27, 2020 to September 25, 2021)
The benefit is taxable: only $900 will be paid each period (10% will be withheld for tax)
Applicants may receive benefits WHILE earning income from employment/self-employment. However, you must reimburse $0.50 of the CRB for every dollar of net income you earned above $38,000. Late payments will be charged interest.
